Leave it to productivity and blogging expert Merlin Mann to simultaneously affirm and explain my belief that The Wire is one of the best TV shows ever, and prove that my method of blogging is entirely inefficient and pretty pointless. a recommended read to hopeful bloggers & storytellers.

i am a sucker for math-rock, but i find that i often lose interest when there is less emphasis on melody than the ‘mathy-ness.’ that’s what Sleeping People really nails. they build up flurries of parts and never lose a sense of melody and chord structure.

this year was the first year that i watched the olympics in HD. it was a truly awesome experience with slow motion replays and all, and it temporarily re-heightened my fascination with specialized athletics. then i started thinking… where was skateboarding? skateboarding is a super-difficult, astonishingly-dangerous, yet beautiful-to-watch sport. maybe it is wrapped in a shroud of its relative newness or the ‘X-treme’ culture it is often tagged with, but seriously. a skateboard is just another device for a technical and coordinated routine as figure skates are.
youtube searching brought me back to my adolescent amazement of rodney mullen. genius flatland skateboarder, and inventor of dozens of tricks, rodney is my all-time favorite. check out this video of rodney in 1984 japan. watch the way he feels so comfortable with the board that he can do anything with it. that level of control requires a very high level of a specific type of athleticism. now if only i could watch an international competition of it in slow-motion HD. maybe next time…

ohhh Daedelus. i’ve been following the mad-professor / victorian-gentlemen from LA for a while now, but his latest album, Love To Make Music To, is probably my favorite. it sounds like a greatest-hits, except with (almost) all brand-new songs. there are some great collabs, some super-dancy jams, and some of his signature-style old-samples-based tracks.
and if you haven’t seen it yet, Daedelus produced the song in this hilarious pro-bama video. you can see him occasionally in a white coat, surrounded by babes.

as good as apple’s auto-correction is on the iphone keyboard, Swype looks like it blows it out of the water in terms of sheer speed. just like T9 on your ancient cellphones [tongue-in-cheek], which Swype’s creator also helped invent, it aims to create the fastest, most efficient way to input data on a device. can’t wait to try this out on tomorrow’s devices.
